(Lightweight Division)

I see Edson Barboza victorious although I do have a lot of respect for his opponent Beneil Dariush. I truly believe that Dariush is a solid fighter but Barboza will be unstoppable in this match-up, especially with it being on his home soil too.

Barboza is a strong striker that goes into this fight with a three-inch reach advantage, he also possesses great striking defence so he will keep the fight on its feet. If you think Dariush will look to take the Brazilian down, think again – as Barboza has excellent defence on the takedown too. His history in the UFC alone proves this as his has 86% success defence in his 16 bouts so far.

On top of all this, Barboza has shown he has tremendous cardio as Dariush has weak stamina and has been noted to start to flake after the first round horn sounds. Barboza will know this and the use of body kicks will also lead to Dariush’s demise.

Dariush is billed as a grappler but as he showed against a strong opponent like James Vick, you can’t underestimate his power. However, he is a southpaw and I see this as working in Barboza’s favour. Edson is a much quicker opponent than Vick and he will telegraph Dariush strikes and possibly counter with elbows and kicks.

After watching a few of Dariush’s fights this week, I drew to one conclusion that could see him win then I second guessed myself instantly. He likes to attempt a takedown from the clinch but while watching Barboza, he can disengage quite easily from the clinch position and can avoid being tied up in the first place. Barboza is our first selection in the UFC Banker tonight.

Image result for tim means

ALEX OLIVERIA (16-3) vs. TIM MEANS (26-7-1)

(Welterweight Division)

Tim Means and Alex Oliveira meet in a rematch of the first bout that ended up in a no contest back in December. In that fight, Oliveira showed poor grappling, poor striking and looked awful on the ground. Means easily out wrestled his opponent and picked him off with the strikes, but after Means landed illegal knees that left Oliveira dazed he was deemed as unable to continue and the fight was called off.

Oliveira is a large welterweight that is full of himself, he is not the polished striker he believes he is with above-average strength and power. He looks for takedowns but Means, by comparison, has most of the same skills, but he’s far and away the more complete striker.

Tim Means will fight at great pace and has great stamina. He is relentless with his strikes constantly throwing punches, kicks and knees and in my eyes Oliveria does not have enough to compete with this. Means will end this before the final bell.

Edson Barboza to win (1.57)

Tim Means to win (1.36)

Double (3PTS on 2.14 @SkyBet)

Will Burns
