The Championship – Week Five Preview & Betting Tips

The Championship is well under way and we continue to learn new things about each side in the league. The three relegated sides have had mixed starts to their league season, while only Blackburn Rovers have failed to win a game. There are five sides that are unbeaten and it will be a great effort if any of those continue that into the international break. This weekend’s results are important as conclusions can be drawn over the break about which teams will be fighting in the top six. Here are Jake Jackman‘s three betting tips for the weekend.

160827 - Fulham Slavisa Jokanovic

Saturday 27th August – 15:00 BST

Blackburn have been poor as I predicted pre-season and Owen Coyle is already under pressure. They struggled to overcome Crewe in the EFL Cup and I expect their poor form to continue in the league. Although he has been a figure of humour in recent weeks, Shane Duffy is a huge loss to the club and they have yet to do anything major in terms of incomings. Fulham are the opposite, having done some great transfer business and look to be a much better side this season. There have been some murmerings that Slavisa Jokanovic is unhappy at having limited involvement in transfers, but they have started the season in great form. I expect them to continue their unbeaten record into the international break.

TIP: Fulham to win (2PTS placed on 2.40 at Bet365)

Saturday 27th August – 15:00 BST

Nottingham Forest look to be the most exciting team to watch in the league, especially at home. Their last two home matches have finished 4-3 to Forest and I expect there to be more goals this weekend. The two sides have only kept one clean sheet between them and that suggests there will be lots of chances for either side. Forest have a good young squad and at home, they play some of the best attacking football in the league. They have been compared to Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers from the 90s and although that is going too far, it gives an indication of how they play.

TIP: Over 3.5 Goals (2PTS placed on 3.40 at Bet365)

Saturday 27th August – 17:30 BST

This is going to be the game of the weekend, between the two sides I tipped for automatic promotion before the season started. I still think both will be in the promotion picture and it will be a good indication of where both sides are. Brighton have drawn their first two matches on the road and remain unbeaten in all competitions, while Newcastle have won their last three. The home side will look to keep a clean sheet and need Matt Ritchie to step up in the absence of Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic. I don’t think Newcastle have enough in the final third to win this game, and I think it will end in a draw.

TIP: Draw (2PTS placed on 3.40 at Bet365)

If you would like to combine all three of these in a treble you will get odds of just below 27/1 with Bet365.

TIP: Treble (1PT placed on 27.74 at Bet365)
