The Championship – Week Two Preview & Betting Tips

The Championship had a great opening weekend and it highlighted just how tough the division is going to be this season. There was only one away victory over 12 matches and I expect home advantage is going to be more important over the first few weeks. Newcastle United and Aston Villa both suffered opening day defeats, with both realising that this season is going to be a lot harder than they had imagined. Jake Jackman has once again got three tips for you this weekend, which are:

160811 - Bristol City

Burton Albion vs Bristol City

Burton showed their fight and togetherness in their opening away match against Nottingham Forest, but ended the match losing 4-3. They will need good home form in order to stay up this season, and there will be a great atmosphere as Bristol City come to town. The visitors are a side I expect to be in the play-off picture this season, with Tammy Abraham looking to be a great signing on loan from Chelsea. I think they will get a win away to Burton and Lee Johnson’s men could be the early pace-setters in the Championship.

TIP: Bristol City to win (2pts placed on 2.60 at Bet365)

Wigan Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers

Wigan were second best to Bristol City in their opening fixture, but they will be targeting a win this weekend. The team traveling to the DW Stadium on Saturday is Blackburn Rovers and they looked woeful last weekend. I tipped them for relegation at the beginning of the season and they showed why they will be at that end of the table. Wigan have home advantage and they still have the positivity from last season. I expect them to get their first points on the board on Saturday and get the win.

TIP: Wigan Athletic to win (2.5pts placed on 2.00 at Bet365)

Norwich City vs Sheffield Wednesday

These two sides are expected to be in the promotion race come the end of the season and they both started the season with three points. Norwich were superb as they dominated Blackburn Rovers, running out 4-1 winners and they sent a warning to the rest of the division. Meanwhile, Wednesday won a tight contest with Aston Villa setting aside any fears that they could have a play-off hangover. Norwich are going to be a side who score a lot of goals this season, but they still haven’t solved their defensive woes from last season. I’m tipping both teams to score in this match.

TIP: Both Teams to Score (2pts placed on 1.83 at Bet365)

If you would like to combine all three of these in a treble you will get odds of just below 17.2 with Bet365.

TIP: Treble (1PT placed on 9.53 at Bet365)
