The Championship – Week One Preview & Betting Tips

The Championship this weekend has several very interesting game to kick off the season and I’m expecting a lot of draws. The league is going to be competitive and more than half of the teams will be targeting promotion. For all of these sides, it is important to get off to a good start, and avoiding defeat in the opening game is crucial. There are three sides Jake Jackman expects to win this weekend and these are:

160806 - Norwich City Alex Neal

Saturday 6th August – 15:00 BST

I expect these two sides to be battling at different ends of the table this season and that difference in ability will show on Saturday. Norwich City struggled last season, but they are better suited to this level and will certainly be in the promotion picture. As for Blackburn, I’m not convinced by Owen Coyle at this level and I think they will struggle. They have sold their captain in Grant Hanley and there are doubts about the future of Shane Duffy. I think Norwich will win on Saturday and could do so convincingly.

TIP: Norwich City to win (2PTS placed on 2.30 at Bet365)

Saturday 6th August – 15:00 BST

This is going to be an even match, but Birmingham are a side I expect to do well this season and challenge for those play-off spots. They have an excellent young coach in Gary Rowett and a balanced side. As for Cardiff, they are probably too strong for relegation, but they are likely to be in the bottom half of the league. Paul Trollope is the new Cardiff manager, which is an interesting appointment, but unlikely to inspire. Birmingham are hosts should prevail here and take the three points.

TIP: Birmingham City to win (2PTS placed on 2.45 at Bet365)

Sunday 7th August – 16:30 BST

The losers of the play-off final and the team that finished bottom of the Premier League will meet on Sunday. Both have aspirations of a promotion challenge this season and this match will be a good indication of where they are in that. I fear for Aston Villa this season as they will be bringing a fragile mentality with them after losing so many matches last season. If they get off to a bad start, then it could have a devastating effect. As for Wednesday, they will take great confidence of last season and they have managed to keep their squad together. I expect another strong campaign from them and I’m confident that they can start with a win against Villa.

TIP: Sheffield Wednesday to win (2PTS placed on 2.20 at Bet365)

If you would like to combine all three of these in a treble you will get odds of just below 23/2 with Bet365.

TIP: Treble (1PT placed on 12.39 at Bet365)
